Purpose: Basic flight training and to obtain military pilots wings.

Hours required to receive Wings: 30 Flying hours. Discretionary decision can be made by Air Command.

88 Maritime Operational Training School

(Maritime Training)

Base: Cape Town International

Aircraft: Westland Super Lynx

              Puma

              Douglas DC-3

Purpose: Training of Maritime patrolling and surveillance of coastal areas.

Hours required to complete training: 10 Hours which are mission allocated hours. Discretionary decision can also be made by  Air Command.

87th Helicopter Flying School

(Rotary Training)

Base: Bloemspruit Air Force Base

Aircraft: Augusta A109 LUH

              Puma

Purpose: Training of basic helicopter flying.

Hours required to complete training: 30 Flying hours. Discretionary decision can be made by Air Command.

 85 Combat Flying School

(Fighter Training)

 Base: Makhado Air Force Base (Fighter Town SA)

Aircraft: Hawk MK120

Purpose: Training of Combat flying skills and integration to the Cheetah and Gripen Fighters.

Hours required to complete training: 55 Flying hours. Discretionary decision can be made by Air Command.
